Tap Dance Music to Make You Come Alive

Posted on July 3rd, 2008 in Blues,Jazz by Terrence Taps

This song is great for tap dancers because of its groove and it’s lyrics. I would love to see choreography set to this one. In fact, if you set a piece to this, share what you did with it in the comments section below.

It’s entitled “I Come Alive” & is included on Incognito’s most recent release.

Tap Dance Music for a Young Lady’s Talent Show

Posted on March 26th, 2008 in For Children,Rock by Terrence Taps

A fellow user of Tap Dance Songs recently left a comment on the main page seeking song recommendations for a girl’s talent show.

If you have any, please post them to comments in the following format:

Artist Name: Cyndi Lauper

Song Title: Girl’s Just Wanna Have Fun

Album: She’s So Unusual: Cyndi Lauper

And follow that with any comments you have about why you think it’s a good choice!

In this case, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” is such a light and fun song. It could lend itself to some really great tap choreography. I can’t wait to see your recommendations!

Tap Dance Music From Class

Posted on January 10th, 2008 in Dance & DJ,International,Jazz,Latin Music,Pop,R & B,Rock by Terrence Taps

My latest session of adult tap classes has just begun so I have decided to feature the tap dance music that we are using in those classes here!

You can click the image to purchase from Amazon.com or use one of these great tap dance music sources!

In the beginner’s class our warm up is set to “It Had To Be You” by Steve Tyrell. The arrangement is very open and the bass walk’s on the downbeat, making it easier to dance on when you are just starting out. This CD also features many other great jazz standards for tap dancing!

In the intermediate class, we are developing a piece around Herb Alpert’s title track, Rise. It’s a very groovy, funky piece of music for tap dancing!

In the Wednesday night intermediate class we spent some time last night working on my Paddle warmup to the song “Come on Closer” on Jem’s “Finally Woken” album. This Cd has lots of good music for tap dancers.

Finally, in my advanced adult class, we are developing a piece of choreography to an arrangement of “La Petite Mambo” on Kenny Burrell’s, ‘Soulero’ album.

For my students, I definitely recommend picking these up for practice! For those who are not students, I still recommend experimenting with these pieces some!

Billy Taylor – Uptown

I must admit that a very selfish part of me didn’t even want to share this one with anyone…other than to spring it on you one day at a live Terrence Taps performance. While I do have a personal favorite track….I’ll never tell what it is!

Dizzy Gillespie, Roy Eldridge, Clark Terry – Trumpet Kings at Montreux

Posted on January 8th, 2008 in Jazz by Terrence Taps

You’ve got to check out this live recording which features these trumpet master’s performing at Montreux. The first song, “Montreux Blues” is sure to bring any gathering of tap dancers to a frenzied climax of hoofing!More great tap dance music from the Tap Dance Songs website!

Chucho Valdes – New Conceptions

Posted on January 7th, 2008 in Jazz,Latin Music by Terrence Taps

This Latin jazz recording is one of my favorites. What Chucho Valdes does on “Homenaje A Ellington” is incredible! He essentially reinterprets jazz through a Latin framework… Tap dance songs don’t get much better than this.Hard to describe, but easy to “feel”…

Branford Marsalis – Eternal

This recording has plenty of strong selections, but “The Lonely Swan” stands out as an opportunity for tap dancers to express themselves in a unique way. Check it out!

At the time of this writing you could download the title track on this album from Amazon for free! This CD was released in October 2007 but sounds like something that could have been released in 1960. It’s so soulful and rich! Head on over to Amazon.com and download this track now. Then come back here and let me know what you think of it!

(Please Note: You will need to setup an Amazon.com account if you don’t already have one)

Alice in Chains – Dirt

This album is an early 90s classic that I would recommend, even if not for tap.I am haunted by “Rooster” You must hear it for yourself and imagine the possibilities!
