Tap Combination: Ready, Set, Go

Posted on November 8th, 2011 in Rap & Hip-Hop by Terrence Taps

I recently recorded a tap combination to “Ready, Set, Go” by Killer Mike from his Pl3dge [Explicit] release. Given the adult nature of the lyrics I decided to use an instrumental version of the track for this video. Of course I’ll be adding a video to eTapDance.com where I teach this combination.

I consider this an Intermediate to Advanced level combination depending on where you tap dance.

Enjoy and then head over to eTapDance.com if you’d like to learn more!

Tap Routine: Moment For Life *Updated*

Posted on June 7th, 2011 in Rap & Hip-Hop by Terrence Taps

This week I’m going to record a combination set to the beginning of “Moment For Life” by Nicki Minaj featuring Drake & teach it on eTapDance.com. You’re going to hear this song all over the radio anyway so you might as well have some steps to do to it.

Update (6/14/11): The combination has been added to eTapDance.com on the tap dance lessons blog.

Here is a YouTube embed of the instrumental version I’m likely to use on eTapDance.com. The instrumental is first:

Maui Tap Experience – J Dilla “Workinonit” with Jason Samuels-Smith

Posted on December 1st, 2010 in Rap & Hip-Hop by Terrence Taps

If you’re like me, you were unable to attend the 2010 Maui Tap Festival. If it isn’t bad enough that you missed the white sandy beaches and lush grounds, prepare to feel worse.

This clip features a snippet of what Jason Samuels-Smith taught at the festival, inspired by J Dilla’s “Workininonit”. I think it’s a very fitting musical choice as Mr. Samuels-Smith has an amazing tap work ethic.

Beneath the video you’ll find links to download the song!

This is a great song by Hip Hop artist Common that many tap dancers are sure to love! I set some tap choreography to this years ago that did great at competition.

Tap Dance Music

I know it’s been a while but hopefully this pick will make up for the absence. In discussing music choices with a Tap Dance Music Newsletter subscriber I remembered this great collection of music called the “Unwrapped” series.

These are extra special because they are Jazz remixes of popular Rap songs. If you like the groove of Rap, but don’t like some of the messages in the music, these CD’s may be perfect for you!

Here is the box set of the first 4 volumes!

Smooth Tap Music

In general, whenever you hear that producer Timbaland was involved in a song, you can assume that it will include a good beat for tap dancers. He gives us a lot of rhythms to work with. That being said, in this post I highlight great tap dance music from album releases involving Timbaland.

The first is by Aaliyah who died tragically several years ago. Her final release is self-titled and includes good music for tap solos & group dances.

Though most of the CD is upbeat, the standout tap song for me is a ballad. It’s called “I Care 4 U” and is perfect for expressing more subtle emotions through dance.

Tap Music To Make You “Sing For The Moment”

We don’t usually think of the rapper Eminem when looking for tap dance music but in this case you may want to make an exception.

He samples “Sing For The Moment” to create a great Hip Hop groove for tap dancers.
